It is normally connected with the pipes come from the wall. There is a twisting hand wheel on the top. A radiator or towel rail will need two valves. One will be fit to inlet pipe, to control the amount of hot water to enter the radiator. And the other one will be fit to the return pipe to balance the system by controlling heat output out of the radiator. Sometimes we can call it ‘lockshield valve’ or return valve.
